This new-build house in Mulbarton occupies a commanding corner plot. Although the house itself faces the corner of the road, its adjacent garages are set square on. By creating a design which sits at a 45 degree angle to the house front it is possible to reconcile the two structures in a coherent and pleasing manner.

This long, narrow corner of a Newmarket garden was a problem area in which little seemed to grow and was simply wasted space. By running a gravel path and raised planters into the area from the main garden the whole area looks larger and some shallow rooted planting can be introduced. The addition of staggered trellis screening towards the back creates a useful storage area for pots etc.

Here an open space is transformed from both practical and aesthetic viewpoints. The gravel path with sleeper steps winds up to a rose covered archway, simultaneously creating a serviceable walkway and an enticing view through to the garden beyond

The outside space of this modern home in the heart of Norwich is only 4m x 4m and was overlooked on all sides. A new ‘outdoor room’ has been created inside the existing boundary with.contemporary K-rend finish on the wall and planters and 2m height horizontal timber screening, giving the garden a clean, modern look entirely appropriate for its urban location. Deep pergola rails greatly increase privacy without compromising light.

This North Norfolk property sits atop a large and steeply sloping garden. The existing patio was vast and windswept and did not relate to either the house or the landscape beyond. The new design creates a wide upper walkway, with bespoke design wrought iron balustrade which follows the contours of the building. Two lower levels ‘reach out’ into the rest of the garden and contain a formal parterre and seating area adjoining an infinity pond.

It is rare to find such terrain in a Norfolk garden but fullest possible advantage is taken of this steeply sloping site with its marvellous views, by the creation of an infinity edge pond on the terracing.

An awkward and unused piece of the garden is brought to life with a cemented pebble path leading through a vine covered pergola in this Suffolk country cottage garden.

This barn-conversion courtyard near Norwich had been finished with sandstone pavers and slate chips by the builders, and was flat and uninteresting. A design which introduced a number of levels was created, which utilised these existing materials. The sandstone was re-laid on two levels and raised planting areas added further dimensions. The overall effect is pleasantly contemporary and echoes the style of this property’s interior finish.

The owner of this small garden, to the rear of a modern bungalow in Attleborough, wished for a ‘courtyard’ in the space. Her visual impairment meant that the design needed to create a finished garden which not only looked like a courtyard but also had the ‘feel’ and sound of a courtyard! The recently completed garden has a wall, built from bricks to match the bungalow, simple pavers with octagonal central area and contemporary sapele screening which all help to create this effect.

The beautiful façade of this large barn conversion near Stowmarket was completely obliterated by old shrub and conifer planting. To open up the views both towards and from the property, the beds were completely stripped and dug over. and a new, mixed planting scheme was created to give year round colour and interest.
